Yes, it arrived this morning. The container is located in Westhill and on the grounds of 'Brand & Rae' who kindly allowed us to park the container for a week. Here are some photos of the empty container. Check back regularly as we will add more images as we fill it up with tools and materials:
And the work of filling the container begins:
Later at 6pm the real work begins. For the next 4 hours these boys worked really hard. This is the wood that will be used to build all six house roofs. It all goes in first and will come out last. Stewart Milne were instrumental in sourcing and delivering all this timber at a very good cost:
Will he be able to get out? Sam was trapped in right at the back sorting out the timber as it was presented to the stack:
New acquaintance made:
Some people just don't go home:
GPH Builders Merchants have been a great help. They donated all this paint:
Lafarge donated this cement:
GPH Builders Merchants also donated all this timber. In fact they donated so much timber that we weren't able to take it all. They also transported all the materials directly to the container for us:
The crane driver started to lift the container and suggested that it was at least 25tons. They were concerned that their lifting gear was going to break and even considered having two cranes to lift the one container. They managed to lift the container in the end with just one crane. As usual, the camera battery died just as it was being lifted so there are no pictures of the container hanging in the air:
And finally the container starts it three month long voyage, destination Bujumbura, Burundi, Africa:
We would really like to thank all those that donated tools, materials and financially for the items that were put into the container and also for all the assistance that was given to load the container and other support that was given that is less visual such as the use of the Community Mini-bus, children collecting books and the Westhill Lions book sales etc. There are many other ways that people in and around the Westhill community have supported this project and we are very greatful to everyone but more importantly the recipients in Burundi will be the most appreciative.
The safety of the container and its contents on the long journey into the heart of Africa is so important so we would appreciate if you can keep this in your prayers.
